NumBumRun Update for May

A BUSY WEEKEND FOR THE NUMBUM TEAM

It’ been a busy weekend for the Numbum team……………………………..It started on Thursday night when the team were invited to Reeve Court Village, Rainhill.
Early in January 2010 I was contacted by John Higgins who had had a chance meeting with Andy whilst he was at a local gym training. They had got talking and John said he would like to help the Numbumrun cause. John went away with an idea, told his sister Wynn and brother in law Tony Wilkinson, who then came up with the idea of doing some raffles and bingo nights to be held in Reeve Court Village and over the next few months they were busy arranging all sort of activities.
John contacted Andy to arrange a presentation evening so that the residents could present him with a cheque for the money they had raised and so on Thursday, we all went to Reeve Court Village.

We arrived just after 7pm and were taken through to the lounge where all the residents were waiting to meet Andy and us. A lady by the name of Brenda Mills started the evening with a very moving story from her childhood about a soldier that had suffered similar injuries to Andy from the 1st world war and the fact that he had to beg for money to live on and later she’d gone to the Lowry in Manchester and had noticed that LS Lowry had captured this solider in one of his paintings. The point of the story was that she was happy that there was no need for our soldiers to beg for food now as we treat our service men & women as HEROES !
And I’ll second that!

Shortly after that the sandwiches and beer came out and the residents and the Numbum team spent a few hours getting to know each other. We were made to feel extremely welcome, just like we were amongst old friends.
The time came to present the cheque and at this point you could have knocked me down with a feather. We were presented with a cheque for £1756.60p, we were absolutely bowled over by this huge donation raised by all these amazing people.
The night was a really humbling experience for me accepting this cheque on behalf of the Numbumrun team, the donation made will be handed to Help for Heroes in September which will help other soldiers just like Andy.
Thank you !

We've also had a great day at the Northwich Thundersprint, with a total of £130 raised & lots of people recruited for the ride alongs!

We had two stars showing their support, Steve Parrish (ex 500GP racer and BBC MotoGP commentator) & Chris 'the stalker' Walker (BSB Racer), although the big stars were all those who put their... hands in their pockets!! Thanks for all your support and well wishes!!

Also a big thanks to Millennium Motorcycles who is represented here, by Matthew Hughes handing over our two 125 Piaggio scooters that we'll be using to escorting Andy while he carries out his challenge in August bank holiday
